For more than 20 years Chef Carrie Hegnauer was a Senior Culinary Instructor at Johnson & Wales University. She is also a graduate of JWU with an Associate’s Degree in Culinary Arts and a Bachelor’s Degree in Food Service Management, graduating with Summa Cum Laude honors.
Chef Hegnauer holds an FMP (Food Management Professional) designation from the National Restaurant Association, a CHE (Certified Hospitality Educator) designation from the American Hotel & Lodging Educational Institute and two advanced certificates with WSET (Wine and Spirits Education Trust). She was a long-time faculty advisor to the JWU Oenology Society.
While still a Johnson & Wales University undergrad student in Norfolk, VA, Chef Carrie founded Black Tie Servers, Inc. providing professionally trained staff to high-end caterers and event planners. She was featured in the cover story of Hampton Roads Woman Magazine for her unique entrepreneurial spirit.
Chef Hegnauer has been profiled by several publications including features in Vibrant Living and SouthPark Magazines and appeared as the cover in Today’s Charlotte Woman Magazine. With frequent appearances on The Charlotte Today Show and FOX News Rising she was also a featured chef for Time Warner Cable’s “Cooking With Johnson & Wales” and hosted a 12 segment “Culinary Classroom” series on Time Warner Cable’s Carolina on Demand channels.
An experienced public speaker, Chef Carrie has spoken to the Charlotte League of Extraordinary Women and was a keynote speaker at the Dove Movement for Self Esteem. She was selected as a featured speaker for the Regional Lilly Conference on College and University Teaching.
Carrie returned to college in her 30’s to pursue her culinary passion. She recently marked her 13th year of cancer-free living after being diagnosed with renal cell carcinoma in 2006.
Our "COO" Chief Operating Officer, Dana Winstead has been with The City Kitch since the beginning. She is a graduate of Johnson & Wales University with both an Associate’s Degree in Culinary Arts and a Bachelor’s in Food Service Management.
Dana was a Dean’s List award recipient and received her European Wine Certificate in 2014 attending the prestigious German Wine & Sommelier School. Before joining The City Kitch, Dana was a member of the bakery team at Whole Foods Market and worked her Culinary Internship at Indian Trail’s Sun Valley Café.
A military veteran, Dana served four years in the United States Air Force Security Forces.
She's always been our “Director Of First Impressions”, her excellent customer service skills and vibrant charm are one of the reasons that The City Kitch truly is a commercial kitchen community.
Dana run's The City Kitch, is married with three kids, two cats, a dog, and a partridge in a pear tree.
